Shaheen Afridi is a Pakistani cricketer who plays as a front fast bowler for the Pakistan cricket team. His International debut for Pakistan is in April 2018 and his Test match debut was in December 2018.

Domestic Career

The timeline for Shaheen Afridi’s domestic is given below:

  • In Dec 2016, he was selected in Pakistan Under-19 cricket team for the Under-19 Asia Cup 2016 held in Sri Lanka. He took 3 wickets for 27 runs in opening match of that tournament.
  • In Sep 2017, Shaheen Afridi made a two-year contract with Dhaka Dynamites (BBL Team). Later that year he made his first-class debut for Khan Research Laboratories KRL in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2017–18. He also took best figures by a Pakistani bowler on first-class debut as he took 8 wickets for 39 runs in that match.
  • In 2017, he was named in Pakistan’s team for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018 and was the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan with 12 wickets. ICC also named him as the rising star of the squad.
  • He made his T20 debut for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 3 2018. In a match with Multan Sultans, he took five wickets haul for just four runs. He was also named as man of the match.
  • In April 2018, he got selected in Balochistan squad for the Pakistan Cup 2018. He made his List A debut in that tournament.
  • In July 2019, he got a chance to play for Rotterdam Rhinos in the first edition of Euro T20 Slam cricket.
  • In Dec 2019, Afridi was included for Hampshire County Cricket Club in the 2020 t20 Blast in England. In the final round of group matches in the tournament, Afridi took a hat-trick and four wickets in four balls, finishing 6/19 in his four overs and that was the best ever bowling figures at Rose Bowl in T20.
  • In Oct 2020, in National T20 Cup 2020-21, he took his second five-wicket haul in consecutive 3 T20 games, with excellent figures of 5/20 in his four overs. He again took his another five-wicket haul, with 5/21 in match against Sindh.
  • In Oct 2021, he then signed with Middlesex to play in England until July 2022.
  • In Dec 2021, he was nominated as the captain of Lahore Qalandars for PSL 7, Under his good captaincy, Lahore Qalandars won the 2022 PSL, which also made him the youngest captain to win a T20 league at international level.
    He was also leading wicket-taker in that tournament.

International Career

  • In March 2018, he got selected in Pakistan’s T20I squad for a series against West Indies. He made his T20I debut for Pakistan in same series. In Sep 2018, he got selected in ODI squad for the Asia Cup 2018. He made his ODI debut in a match against Afghanistan on 21 September 2018.
  • He made his Test debut for Pakistan team in a series against New Zealand on 3 Dec 2018.
  • In April 2019, he got selected in Pakistan team for 2019 Cricket World Cup. In a match against Bangladesh, He became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup fixture, securing 6 wickets by giving 35 runs. These were also best bowling figures by a Pakistani Bowler in a World Cup match.
  • Shaheen Afridi took his first ever five-wicket haul in Test cricket In during the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Dec 2019.
  • In January 2022, Shaheen Afridi was announced as the Cricketer of the Year by the ICC as he took 78 wickets in 36 matches in the year 2021.
